Maestro Wide Character Set

The Maestro font was the default music font for Finale versions from 2000 through v26 (in Finale v27.0 the default music font has now become the SMuFL-based Finale Maestro font).

  • It was modeled after Notaset transfers which were a preferred look of many publishers in the era immediately preceding music notation software.
  • Maestro’s noteheads aren’t as wide as those in the Engraver font, and its articulations are significantly different.
  • If a keystroke is separated by a plus sign (+), the keys must be pressed in succession. If a keystroke combination is separated by a comma, type the first keystroke combination, release the keys, and press the character after the comma.

All of these characters can also be selected by using Text > Font to choose the desired font and Text > Inserts > Symbol to open the Symbol Selection dialog box. In addition to musical characters, the Maestro Times font includes Times New Roman uppercase, lowercase, numeric, punctuation, and symbol characters.

Maestro Percussion Character Set

The character sets for the Maestro and Maestro Wide fonts are very similar. The main difference is the width of the notation noteheads in the Maestro Wide font, which are displayed below.
